“The American President”

If you’re looking for a classic American romance, this film about a widowed U.S. president might just be the one for you. Pretty soon, the country’s leader finds himself being drawn to a beautiful environmentalist, which makes for a romantic setting that is not normally associated with political-themed films.

What makes the film’s plot even more intriguing is screenwriter Aaron Sorkin’s exceptional storyline and script, which was also responsible for his next presidential masterpiece in 1999 known as “The West Wing.” What’s more, with their exceptional performances in front of the camera, it’s no wonder that both of the film’s lead actors Michael Douglas and Annette Bening went on to be nominated for a Golden Globe.

“Strictly Ballroom”

Don’t just take out word for it, Rotten Tomatoes hails “Strictly Ballroom” as an eye-catching and emotionally rich film worth watching. With “Romeo + Juliet” and “Moulin Rouge” director Baz Luhrmann at the helm, you can bet your bottom dollar this film deserves a spot on this list.

Sparks immediately start flying when Scott and Fran have their first encounter at a ballroom dancing routine. While the former is a renowned dancer who is putting his career on the line by pairing up with his relatively unknown and unassuming partner, his pairing with Fran eventually helps both of them to level up their performances in an Aussie romance that is definitely one for the ages.
